In the wake of the Indian men’s hockey team clinching a historic bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a series of cash rewards have been announced to honor the players and support staff.
Hockey India Rewards Players and Staff
Hockey India has declared a substantial cash prize of Rs 15 lakh for each player of the Indian men’s hockey team and Rs 7.5 lakh for every member of the support staff, recognizing their remarkable achievement in securing the bronze medal.
Odisha CM Announces Additional Rewards
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has also commended the team’s outstanding performance, announcing an additional reward of Rs 15 lakh for each player. During a press conference, CM Majhi further revealed a reward of Rs 10 lakh for the support staff. Additionally, Amit Rohidas, a key player from Odisha, will receive a special reward of Rs 4 crore for his exceptional contribution to the team’s success.
Punjab CM’s Generous Offer
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a generous cash prize of Rs 1 crore for each hockey player from the state who was part of the Indian men’s team that secured the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
India’s victory in the bronze medal match was sealed with a 2-1 win over Spain at the Yves du Manoir Stadium, thanks to two goals from captain Harmanpreet Singh and remarkable saves by goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. This achievement marks India’s first back-to-back bronze medal wins in hockey since the 1972 Munich Games, ending a 52-year drought.
