On Thursday, Jharkhand Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan extended an invitation to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president Hemant Soren to form the government. This follows the resignation of Champai Soren from the Chief Minister’s position.
Hemant Soren is set to take the oath as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister at 5 PM today, according to sources from Raj Bhavan.
Champai Soren’s resignation, just five months after he assumed office, has paved the way for Hemant Soren’s return to the role.
“With Hemant Soren’s return, our alliance decided to choose him as our leader. Therefore, I have resigned from the position of Chief Minister,” Champai Soren announced to reporters.
Champai Soren was sworn in as Jharkhand’s CM at Raj Bhavan on February 2 earlier this year.
After staking his claim to form the government, the JMM’s executive president indicated that further details would be shared soon.
Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28, nearly five months after being granted bail in a money laundering case. He had resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest on January 31.
Hemant Soren was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering.
