In a tragic incident, a stampede at a private event in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, has resulted in the loss of 50-60 lives, confirmed Hathras DM Ashish Kumar. The stampede occurred in a village about 200 km southeast of New Delhi, where a large crowd had gathered on an open ground following a call from a local religious leader.
“The district administration is investigating the matter. The injured are being taken to the hospital, and people are still being recovered. Doctors have reported approximately 50-60 deaths,” stated Hathras DM Ashish Kumar.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and issued immediate directives to expedite relief efforts. He has instructed officials to transport the injured to hospitals promptly and ensure they receive adequate medical treatment, wishing for their swift recovery.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his condolences over the incident during a parliament session. “I express my condolences to those who lost their lives in this accident. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue work under the supervision of the state government. Senior officials of the central government are in constant touch with the Uttar Pradesh government. I assure everyone through this House that the victims will be helped in every way,” he said.
