The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) retest, conducted on June 23 for 1,563 candidates. This retest followed a controversy over the awarding of grace marks to certain students.
In addition to the retest results, the NTA has revised the ranks for all candidates who took the exam.
Originally conducted on May 5, the NEET UG examination results were declared on June 4. The announcement led to significant backlash, as 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720, sparking nationwide protests.
The Supreme Court intervened, ruling that the grace marks awarded should be removed. Affected candidates were given the option to retake the exam or retain their original scores without the grace marks. To address the issues, the central government established a high-level committee, led by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, to review the NTA’s examination processes. This seven-member committee is expected to report its findings within two months.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the NEET-UG investigation after uncovering evidence of a paper leak in Bihar. The CBI registered a criminal case on June 23 regarding alleged irregularities and formed special teams to probe the matter.
On June 27, the CBI arrested two individuals in Jharkhand related to the NEET-UG paper leak case, following previous arrests of two suspects in Patna, Bihar.
