A seven-member high-level committee has been established by the Centre to ensure transparency and scrutinize the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA), sources from the Education Ministry confirmed. The committee will convene its first meeting on Monday.
Ministry of Education Announces Expert Committee
On Saturday, the Ministry of Education announced the formation of this expert committee tasked with recommending reforms in the examination process, enhancing data security protocols, and evaluating the NTA’s operations.
Committee Leadership and Reporting
The committee, chaired by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, is expected to submit its findings and recommendations to the ministry within the next two months.
Objective of the Committee
“The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has constituted a High-Level Committee of Experts to ensure transparent, smooth, and fair conduct of examinations through the National Testing Agency (NTA),” stated the ministry. The committee will focus on examination process reforms, data security improvements, and the overall structure and functioning of the NTA.
NTA Under Scrutiny
The NTA, responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exams, has faced criticism due to alleged irregularities. The situation escalated with several protests and demands from political parties to disband the NTA after an unprecedented 67 candidates scored a perfect 720 out of 720 marks.
CBI Investigation
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case concerning irregularities in the NEET (UG) 2024 exam, held on May 5, 2024. The CBI has formed special teams to investigate “isolated incidents” reported in a few states.
NTA’s Response
The NTA has asserted that its website and web portals are fully secure, dismissing allegations of compromised portals as “wrong and misleading.”
