More To Say About Next Year’s G7 When We Assume Presidency: Trudeau On Whether Canada Will Invite PM Modi

IndiaMore To Say About Next Year’s G7 When We Assume Presidency: Trudeau On Whether Canada Will Invite PM Modi

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he will provide more details about the 2025 G7 Summit when Canada assumes its presidency. Speaking to reporters, Trudeau acknowledged the anticipation among Canadians for the upcoming summit and expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other G7 leaders on various discussed issues.

When asked about inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the 2025 G7 Summit, Trudeau emphasized that Canada will disclose more information about the summit as it gets closer to assuming the G7 Presidency next year. He highlighted the importance of working with current G7 President Italy and all G7 partners.

The recent G7 Summit was held in Italy’s Apulia region from June 13-15, with India participating as an ‘Outreach Country’. The summit included member countries the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and France, along with the European Union.

In a social media post, PM Trudeau confirmed that the next G7 Leaders’ Summit will be hosted in Kananaskis, Alberta, in 2025. This announcement followed a meeting between Trudeau and PM Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, marking their first interaction amid strained diplomatic relations between India and Canada.

Tensions between the two countries arose after Trudeau accused Indian government agents of being involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a terrorist designated by India. India has denied these accusations, calling them “absurd” and “motivated.” The situation remains complex, with no specific evidence provided by Canada to support the claims.
