NTT Com Introduces Commercial Sales of Active Multi-access SIM™ for Enhanced Carrier Redundancy in Diverse IoT Devices

TechNTT Com Introduces Commercial Sales of Active Multi-access SIM™ for Enhanced Carrier Redundancy in Diverse IoT Devices

NTT Com Launches Commercial Sales of Active Multi-access SIM™ for Enhanced IoT Connectivity

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the ICT solutions and international communications arm of the NTT group, has officially commenced the commercial sales of its Active Multi-access SIM™. Initially introduced on a trial basis since March 28, 2023, the new SIM and associated service are now available for purchase starting from January 31. This innovative solution enables diverse IoT devices to seamlessly switch between a network’s main and sub-carriers in the event of network failure, ensuring network redundancy with a single SIM on a fully automatic basis, without the need for manual monitoring or switching on the device terminal side.

The service offers three primary benefits, including automatic fault detection and carrier switching, both of which are currently patent pending. In the event of communication failure, the applet within the SIM automatically identifies the issue, switches to a sub-carrier, and then reverts to the main carrier after a predefined period, all without any manual intervention or complex configurations required by the user.

Furthermore, the service complies with European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices utilizing the SIM Toolkit standard. This allows SIM applets to issue commands to these devices, enhancing interoperability.

The third advantage lies in the convenience and operability of the service, which includes centralized contracts and support, simplified management of main and sub-carriers provided by NTT Com, optimized costs through various plans based on data usage, and centralized management of lines via a user-friendly portal/API interface.

Additionally, the service is available on the Smart Data Platform as part of the IoT Connect Mobile® Type S plan, enabling enhanced data usage and business building opportunities. Companies can leverage highly available circuits for constructing data-utilization infrastructure on the platform, while also managing user contracts and privileges conveniently via a dedicated portal.

NTT Com plans to consider expanding the Active Multi-access SIM™ service with additional features, such as closed area connections, in the future.

In response to the increasing adoption of IoT solutions for business expansion, NTT Com’s Active Multi-access SIM™ service aims to meet the growing demand for highly reliable networks offering robust redundancy. Based on feedback received during the trial period, NTT Com has enhanced various functions and is now officially launching the service.
