Union Minister of Women & Child Development Smriti Irani unveiled the logo and website for the Alliance for Global Good – Gender Equity and Equality in a ceremony on Wednesday. Notable dignitaries, including Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), attended the event.
In her address, Smriti Irani emphasized India’s leading role in advocating for women’s emancipation and its commitment to global welfare. She highlighted India’s recent success in garnering international support for the alliance during the Davos summit.
The Alliance for Global Good: Gender Equity and Equality, launched during the Davos 2024 summit, aims to advance gender equality globally. It aligns with India’s vision for women-led development championed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The alliance seeks to promote global best practices, facilitate knowledge exchange, and attract investments in women’s health, education, and entrepreneurship, in alignment with various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The alliance’s logo symbolizes equality and equity, featuring the alphabet “e” representing Equality and Equity, with parallel strokes denoting collective action by governments, industry, and institutions to empower women economically worldwide. The tricolours represent the alliance’s values, while the red dot signifies prosperity. Inspired by Lord Ganesha, the logo embodies intellect, wisdom, and understanding.
Bill Gates praised the alliance’s commitment to women-led development, reaffirming the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s support for equitable development focusing on women’s empowerment, health, and education.
Chandrajit Banerjee expressed pride in India’s initiative, emphasizing CII’s commitment to mobilize industry participation globally to contribute to the alliance’s objectives.
