Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced plans to clean six major river basins similar to the Ganga, enlisting 12 technical institutes for extensive studies.

These basins include the Narmada, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery, Periyar, and Mahanadi. Agreements were signed with institutions like IITs and NITs to formulate management plans.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind initiated this in 2019, emphasizing the government’s commitment. The initiative aims to address environmental challenges faced by these rivers and marks a significant step in river basin management.
