On Saturday, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher urged the Centre to enact an ordinance providing a legal guarantee for MSP, a key demand of farmers at the Shambhu and Khanauri points of the Punjab-Haryana border.
This demand precedes the fourth round of talks between farm leaders and Union ministers scheduled for Sunday. Pandher emphasized that the government could swiftly introduce an ordinance if it desires to resolve the farmers’ protest. He noted that any ordinance typically holds a six-month validity.
Additionally, Pandher addressed the issue of farm debt waiver, suggesting that the government could gather loan data from banks to facilitate this process. Union ministers Arjun Munda, Piyush Goyal, and Nityanand Rai are slated to meet with farmer leaders for the fourth round of talks.
Meanwhile, farmers continue their “Delhi Chalo” march, advocating for various demands including a legal guarantee for MSP, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pension for farmers, and justice for victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
