Madhura Swaminathan, daughter of late agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, criticized the government’s treatment of farmers marching to Delhi, emphasizing they should not be labeled as criminals.
Her remarks come amidst tear gas usage by authorities and border closures to deter farmers demanding a law guaranteeing minimum support prices for crops.
Meanwhile, Atul Sood, a JNU professor, stressed the necessity of legal frameworks to support farmers, highlighting their struggles to sell crops at government-fixed prices due to the lack of enforceability.
