“Imran Khan Requests US Assistance to Address Election Rigging in Pakistan, Receives No Response”

Politics"Imran Khan Requests US Assistance to Address Election Rigging in Pakistan, Receives No Response"

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, reached out to the United States for assistance regarding what his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), alleges to be rigged general elections. Khan’s appeal comes amidst ongoing political turmoil following the fractured mandate in the February 8 elections, where no single party secured a clear majority. Despite PTI winning a significant number of seats, the party claims its mandate was stolen, with some independent candidates who initially supported PTI joining rival coalitions.

Following a meeting of PTI leaders at Adiala Jail, PTI speaker Asad Qaiser announced the nomination of Umar Ayub Khan as the Prime Ministerial candidate. However, the spotlight was on Imran Khan’s message to the US, emphasizing the need for American intervention against alleged election rigging. Khan’s message conveyed that if the US champions democracy, it should speak out if it believes the elections in Pakistan were unfair.

PTI’s counsel Barrister Saif echoed these sentiments, urging the US to take a tougher stance on the elections.
