The BJP refrained from offering a formal response to the Supreme Court’s electoral bond ruling, citing the need for a thorough examination of the lengthy judgment before providing a detailed reply.
While defending the electoral bonds as crucial for transparency in electoral funding, the party criticized the Congress for politicizing the court’s decision. Internally, there was discontent over the ruling’s timing just before the Lok Sabha elections.
Former law minister and BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad emphasized the need for careful analysis of the judgment and praised the bonds for their transparency objectives. Privately, some party members expressed frustration and hoped for a swift response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration.
Despite speculations about the possibility of an ordinance to counter the ruling, leaders felt it might send the wrong message before elections. The BJP focused on rebuking the Congress for alleging corruption in the electoral bond scheme, asserting that such accusations were baseless and highlighting the scheme’s role in promoting fairness in elections.
