Today, Vibhakar Shastri, the grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, announced his resignation from the Congress party. In a post shared on X platform, Mr. Shastri addressed Congress President Shri Kharge, stating, “Hon’ble Congress President Shri Kharge ji! Respected Sir, I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of Indian National Congress, Regards, Vibhakar Shastri.”
Mr. Shastri, who is the son of Hari Krishna Shastri, has previously contested Lok Sabha elections without success.
This move adds to a series of departures from the Congress party over the past few years. Notable figures such as Ashok Chavan, Milind Deora, Baba Siddiqui, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jitin Prasad, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Sushmita Dev, RPN Singh, Jaiveer Shergill, among others, have joined other political parties.
