A woman from Darjeeling, West Bengal, was allegedly subjected to a week-long ordeal of rape, torture, and assault by her friend in Delhi, police reported on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Paras (28), has been charged with rape, sodomy, and causing hurt. He was apprehended on February 2.
According to police, the victim had been residing with Paras for approximately a month in a rented residence in Raju Park, Neb Sarai area of south Delhi.
The incident came to light on January 30 when the Neb Sarai police station received a PCR call reporting a woman being assaulted by her husband. Responding swiftly, a police team rescued the victim and transported her to AIIMS.
Upon hospitalization, it was discovered that the woman bore around 20 injury marks on her body. She was discharged recently.
“Around 3-4 months ago, the victim, originally from Darjeeling, West Bengal, befriended Paras over the phone,” a senior police officer disclosed.
The woman had planned to travel to Bengaluru in early January after securing a job as a housemaid. Since her journey involved a stopover in Delhi, she decided to stay with Paras, who assured her assistance in job hunting, the officer elaborated.
However, as days passed, the accused allegedly subjected her to physical and sexual abuse for a week, as per the victim’s account to the police. In one instance, Paras purportedly poured hot lentils over her, causing burn injuries.
Based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR was registered on January 30 under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), and 377 (sodomy) of the Indian Penal Code. Paras was subsequently arrested on February 2.
Originally from Uttarakhand, Paras worked as a cook at a local eatery in Delhi.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, police stated.
