The Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated simultaneous searches at various locations in West Bengal on Tuesday morning as part of its investigation into the alleged misappropriation of MGNREGA funds, according to officials.
In Salt Lake’s IA Block, the residence of a former block development officer (BDO) was raided, while searches were also underway at the residence and office of a businessman in Chinsurah, located in the Hooghly district.
Additionally, searches were being conducted at a property associated with a state government employee in Baharampur, situated in the Murshidabad district.
An officer mentioned that the former BDO had been stationed in Dhaniakhali, located in the Hooghly district.
These searches were launched after evidence implicating their involvement in the alleged irregularities was uncovered, the officer claimed.
The purported irregularities pertain to approximately 25 lakh “fake” job cards issued under MGNREGA in the state, as per officials.
