Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a significant allegation on Friday, asserting that the Income Tax (I-T) department, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Enforcement Directorate (ED) are operating as affiliated entities of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and have lost their autonomy. In his criticism of the BJP-led NDA government, the senior Congress leader emphasized the perceived lack of independence in these agencies.
Siddaramaiah’s remarks followed the recent arrest of JMM executive president Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday. Soren is facing charges in a money laundering case related to an alleged land fraud, subsequent to his resignation as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Taking to social media platform ‘X,’ Siddaramaiah expressed his concern, stating, “Enforcement Directorate raids on opposition leaders in the last ten years are proof that CBI, I-T, ED are no longer autonomous agencies but are functioning as @BJP4India party affiliates.”
The Chief Minister stressed the necessity for opposition parties to not only contend with the BJP during elections but also confront the challenges posed by the I-T, CBI, and ED. He further alleged that under BJP rule, the country’s Constitution and democracy are at risk of deterioration.
