Indian Navy Rescues 19 Pakistani Crew Members from Hijacked Fishing Vessel off East Coast of Somalia
Indian warship INS Sumitra successfully intervened in an anti-piracy operation, rescuing 19 Pakistani crew members from an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel under attack by pirates along the east coast of Somalia. INS Sumitra, dedicated to anti-piracy and maritime security operations in the region, thwarted a piracy attempt on the Iranian fishing vessel Iman on Monday.
In another swift and successful operation, INS Sumitra rescued the fishing vessel Al Naeemi and its 19 crew members from 11 Somali pirates. Commander Vivek Madhwal, spokesperson for the Indian Navy, reported that within less than 36 hours, INS Sumitra’s relentless efforts led to the rescue of two hijacked fishing vessels and a total of 36 crew members, including 17 Iranians and 19 Pakistanis, in the Southern Arabian Sea, approximately 850 nautical miles west of Kochi.
Commander Madhwal emphasized the Indian Navy’s unwavering commitment to combating maritime threats in the region, ensuring the safety of all mariners and vessels at sea.
