Karnataka batter Prakhar Chaturvedi etched his name in Indian cricket history by breaching the 400-run mark in an innings against Mumbai in the final of India’s premier under-19 multi-day tournament, the Cooch Behar Trophy.
Great news for cricket lovers! Karnataka batter Prakhar Chaturvedi etched his name in Indian cricket history by breaching the 400-run mark in an innings against Mumbai in the final of India’s premier under-19 multi-day tournament, the Cooch Behar Trophy. Chaturvedi’s unbeaten 404 runs now stand as the second-highest individual score in the history of the tournament.
In doing so, the young cricketer broke former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s 25-year-old record of scoring the highest individual score in the Cooch Behar Trophy final. Playing for Punjab, Yuvraj’s score of 358 runs in December 1999 helped them beat Bihar, which also included MS Dhoni.
Vijay Zol still holds the record for the highest individual score in the tournament, amassing 451 runs for Maharashtra against Assam in the 2011–12 season.
Chaturvedi’s magical innings
In reply to Mumbai’s 380 runs in the first innings, Chaturvedi opened with Karthik SU. Karthik, too, scored a half-century. After Karthik’s wicket fell, Chaturvedi, along with Harshil Dharmani, formed a tremendous partnership, scoring 290 runs for the second wicket. This partnership dashed Mumbai’s hopes and gave Karnataka the lead.
Dharmani also notched up his ton, scoring 169 runs. Notable contributions from Karthikeya KP and Hardik Raj, both scoring half-centuries, propelled Karnataka to a mammoth total of 890 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their first innings.
The match concluded in a draw as Karnataka secured the first-innings advantage.
