Cold day conditions likely to reduce over northwest India from January 11: IMD
In an encouraging turn of events, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates a break from the chilly conditions in the upcoming days. According to the latest forecast released on Wednesday, cold day to severe cold day conditions are expected to diminish over northwest India starting Thursday, January 11.
While this brings a welcome respite, the IMD also cautions that dense fog is likely to persist during morning hours in isolated pockets of northwest India for the next 4-5 days.
The IMD highlights that cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely to persist in specific areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh on January 10. However, this is predicted to transition into cold day conditions in isolated pockets on January 11 and gradually diminish thereafter.
In Rajasthan, isolated pockets may continue to experience cold day conditions on January 10 and 11, gradually decreasing thereafter. Additionally, ground frost conditions are expected over Uttarakhand on January 11 and 12.
Fog Forecast:
The IMD warns of dense to very dense fog conditions prevailing for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over north Rajasthan on January 11 and 12, with a subsequent reduction. Similar conditions are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura from January 11-15. Additionally, fog is anticipated over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim on January 11 and 12.
Rainfall Predictions:
Over the next 2 days, light to moderate rainfall is expected in certain areas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep. This weather pattern is influenced by a cyclonic circulation situated over the Kerala coast in the lower tropospheric levels, according to the IMD. Following this period, dry weather conditions are forecasted.
