Health12,000 people in Afghanistan afflicted with AIDS: Taliban

Approximately 12,000 people in Afghanistan are currently afflicted with the “HIV” disease.

During a session held on Monday in observance of World AIDS Day, the Taliban-appointed ministry highlighted that 1.0 percent of Afghanistan’s population is affected by HIV/AIDS, based on World Health Organization (WHO) statistics.

The ministry reported that 3,492 individuals have been assisted through its Infectious Control Program.

AIDS, transmitted through sexual intercourse, shared needles, and contaminated blood-related equipment, has been commemorated annually on December 1 since 1998 as World AIDS Day, aiming to raise awareness and combat the disease.

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), caused by a virus transmitted to a person’s body, exhibits symptoms across three stages. Initially, affected individuals may experience severe or superficial infections. Subsequently, the disease progresses, often leading to weakness and severe inflammation in the later stages.
