IndiaRaksha Mantri Rajnath Singh to embark on a two day visit to Sri Lanka from tomorrow

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, will be on an official 2 day visit to Sri Lanka starting tomorrow. The visit will further strengthen bilateral defence ties with the island nation. Mr. Singh will engage in discussions with Sri Lankan President and Defence Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. The entire gamut of India’s defence ties with Sri Lanka will be reviewed during these meetings. Beyond official meetings, Mr. Singh will also visit Nuwara Eliya and Trincomalee, underscoring India’s commitment to bolstering its friendly relations with Sri Lanka. The visit is an important landmark in deepening the enduring bonds of friendship between the two countries in the defence sphere.
India has been supporting Sri Lanka’s defence forces under its vision of Security and Growth for all in the Region (SAGAR) and Neighbourhood First policy. Last month, on the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day, India had handed over an Indian Navy Dornier aircraft replacing the earlier aircraft that had returned to India for scheduled maintenance after one year of service. As a defence manufacturer, India has been helping Sri Lanka through strengthening the defence capabilities of the Indian Ocean neighbour.
