Demonstrating the growing relationship between India and Greece, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with ‘The Grand Cross of the Order of Honour’ by President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Friday (August 25). Earlier in the day, PM Modi also held talks with Greece’s President to strengthen bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Modi is on a daylong visit to the country, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis. As informed by MEA, both countries will look to expand and diversify the trade and investment segment of cooperation, deepen the defence and security partnership, infrastructure cooperation, and shipbuilding industry, among others.

In recent years, relations between both countries have strengthened through cooperation in areas like maritime transport, defence, trade, investments, and people-to-people ties.

Alongside their historical civilisational links, Greece is one of India’s most significant European partners and instrumental to India’s growing trade with Europe. As mentioned by Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, “Greece is one of India’s important European partners, is a member of the EU, of NATO, and a gateway to Europe and also to the EU market, and enjoys a privileged position at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and Africa.”
