Continuous rainfall has caused severe disruptions on the Old Hindustan Tibet NH-5 in Shimla and Kinnaur districts, leaving numerous vehicles stranded along the highway.
Media reports have confirmed that heavy boulders, mud, and landslides have hit NH5 at Baroni in Kinnaur and Kheneri in Shimla district.
While a bridge on NH-5 managed to escape a massive landslide, the water observatory on the bridge and NH5 were blocked by a substantial amount of debris and boulders, partially obstructing the flow of water in the Baroni Khud.
The landslides and uprooted trees have completely cut off road communication between Shimla and Kinnaur districts, and restoration efforts are expected to take several days. The district administration has issued an orange alert for the next two days as incessant rainfall continues to disrupt roads and footways in the region.
