In Delhi’s Mukundpur area, three children drowned in a rainwater-filled ditch at a metro construction site while they were bathing.
The three children, Piyush (13), Nikhil (10), and Ashish (13) were having a bath in a rainwater ditch at a metro construction site.
The Delhi Fire Service responded to the incident and retrieved the children from the ditch. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save them, all three children were declared dead at BJRM Hospital. The children were residents of the H-block in the Jahangirpuri area.
Meantime, heavy rains flood Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the first jammed gate of the ITO barrage in Delhi has been opened after 20 hours of continuous efforts. This action is expected to provide some relief from the floodwater. Kejriwal shared this news on Twitter, stating that a diving team used a compressor to extract silt from underwater, and then a hydra crane was used to open the gate. He further mentioned that all five gates would be opened soon.
Earlier in the day, during a visit to the flood-affected areas, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Health, Urban Development, and Water Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj were involved in an argument over the deployment of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team to repair a damaged drain regulator that caused flooding in the low-lying ITO area of the national capital. Bhardwaj claimed that he had requested assistance from the NDRF but was ignored by officers. He also alleged that the officers did not follow his directions, causing delays in addressing the emergency situation.
