At least three lives lost in destructive floods in Brazil’s southernmost state, Rio Grande do Sul
According to reports from Brazilian media, devastating floods in Brazil’s southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul have claimed the lives of at least three individuals, while an additional 12 individuals are currently unaccounted for.
The calamitous situation unfolded on Friday when an extratropical cyclone triggered floods and landslides, impacting a minimum of 16 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul.
Local authorities, as cited by the G1 news portal, confirmed the loss of three lives and the ongoing search for 12 missing individuals amidst the flooding.

As a consequence of the disaster, approximately 350,000 households and businesses in Rio Grande do Sul remain without electricity. Multiple municipalities have declared a state of emergency, and over 20 municipalities have canceled school classes.
