The residence of Union Minister R K Ranjan in Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Manipur, was set on fire by unidentified individuals, according to the police on Friday.

Fortunately, the residents of the area were able to extinguish the fire late on Thursday night.

The incident resulted in damage to a portion of the house and some vehicles, but Minister Ranjan, who serves as the Minister of State for Education, was not present at the time of the fire on Thursday night.

Security measures have been strengthened in the surrounding area.

In Imphal West and Imphal East districts, the authorities have decided to relax the curfew until 1 pm. However, certain vulnerable parts of the state capital will remain under strict restrictions.

The Manipur government has extended the internet ban until June 20.

This ban was initially imposed on May 3 following the outbreak of violence in the Chura Chandpur district.
