A firing incident took place inside the Bathinda Military Station in Punjab in the early hours of Wednesday in which four army personnel were martyred.
Confirming the incident, an army official said that it occurred at around 4.35 am inside the military station, due to which four army personnel died. He said that taking prompt action, the army has cordoned off the entire area and no person is being allowed to enter or leave the area.
With the discovery of two more villagers’ corpses on Tuesday, the death toll rose to three vis-à-vis the communal violence in Biranpur even as an uneasy calm prevails in this otherwise-nondescript district where prohibitory orders were imposed in the wake of the disturbances claiming a youth’s life on Saturday.
The army has started a search operation. Further details are awaited. An update said that all aspects including the possible case of involvement of an INSAS rifle along with 28 rounds reported missing two days back are being ascertained.
All parties have been requested to avoid rumours and refrain from speculation considering the sensitivities involved.
