About three people were killed and eight others were injured in a stampede at a blanket distribution event of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari
Suvendu Adhikari, BJP Leader of Opposition was in West Bengal’s Asansol on Wednesday when the unfortunate mishap occurred. The report quoting the Commissioner of Police of Asansol-Durgapur Commissionerate Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam said among the dead was a minor girl.
The injured, mostly, women have been admitted to different local hospitals. The blanket distribution was organized by the BJP at Ward No 27 ( Rail Para) where BJP’s Nandigram MLA Suvendu Adhikari was present.
Adhikari left the area after distributing a blanket to a beneficiary. The report said that about 5000 blankets were to be distributed from five counters.
However, stampedes happened at a distribution counter in which three people were killed and eight others were wounded. There was no official permission for such an event to take place in the area where thousands of people had gathered to receive blankets, according to the police.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh blamed Adhikari for the stampede. He said the BJP organized an illegal rally without police permission leading the chaos.
