In a bizarre incident a complaint of killing a rat was lodged with Sadar Kotwali police station on Friday after which the remains of the animal have been sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) for post-mortem, police sources said.
Police sources said that district president of People for Animal Vikendra Sharma lodged a written complaint that while he was passing through Gandhi ground crossing in the afternoon, he saw a person identified as Manoj Kumar throwing a rat in a drain after tying a stone in its tail.
“Vikendra (rescuer and complainant) has claimed that he jumped into the drain to rescue the rat, but it died,” they said. Police sources said that the complainant has lodged a complaint under sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
