Elon Musk declares new Twitter policy to hinder hate speech

North AmericaElon Musk declares new Twitter policy to hinder hate speech

Elon Musk declares a new Twitter policy to hinder hate speech and negative tweets saying freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach.

Elon Musk built a new policy tp deboost and demonetize negative or hate tweets which essentially means that they won’t be visible to a user unless they especially look for them.  These tweets would become visible if a user searches them with proper keywords. This only applies to an individual tweet and not an entire user account.

“You won’t find the tweet unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from the rest of the Internet. Note, this applies just to the individual tweet, not the whole account,” he said.

A demonetization policy also means that Twitter will not get advertisements or any other kind of revenue on these particular tweets.

Announcing the policy, Musk said, “new Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach. Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter.”

The announcement came a day after hundreds of Twitter employees were estimated to have decided to leave the company following a Thursday deadline from Musk that staffers sign up for “long hours at high intensity.”

Musk also took a Twitter poll late on Friday asking followers to vote on whether to reinstate former United States President Donald Trump’s account on the platform, with early results showing roughly 60% voting yes.

Musk said earlier in the day that a decision to bring back Trump’s account was yet to be made, and that Twitter had reinstated some controversial accounts that had been banned or suspended, including the satirical website Babylon Bee and comedian Kathy Griffin.
