A bench headed by CJ DY Chandrachud Supreme Court orders status quo on 27 percent reservation to OBC in local bodies in Maharashtra
Supreme Court on Thursday in a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that the status quo should be maintained on 27 percent reservation to OBC in local bodies in Maharashtra till the next date of hearing on November 28.
This was in connection with the hearing on a plea challenging the promulgation of an ordinance by the Maharashtra government which provided a blanket 27 percent reservation in the local bodies to those belonging to the OBCs.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said the status quo be maintained till further hearing on November 28. The apex court announced today that the elections of 23 Municipal Corporations, Nagar Panchayats were pending in Maharashtra.
The Supreme Court was hearing the plea challenging the promulgation of an ordinance by the Maharashtra government which provided for a blanket 27 percent reservation in the local bodies to those belonging to the OBCs.
