Veteran Tollywood Actor Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy, known mononymously as Krishna, passed away today.
Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy suffered a massive cardiac arrest yesterday and succumbed to his illness while undergoing treatment at Continental Hospitals in Gachibowli at 4 AM on Tuesday.
Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy was 79 and is survived by one son who is popular actor Mahesh Babu and three daughters. He had two wives, Indira Devi who passed in 2022 and his other wife Vijaya Nirmala died in 2019. Vijaya Nirmala was an actress, director, and producer.
The Superstar’s first son Ramesh Babu, born to Indira Devi died in January this year. Krishna, a former director, and producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema was admitted to Continental Hospitals, after suffering a cardiac arrest at 01.15 AM on Monday, in a critical state, and put on a ventilator.
The doctors immediately performed CPR, resuscitated him within 20 minutes, and shifted him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for treatment & observation. An expert, multi-disciplinary team, including cardiologists, neurologists, and critical care specialists closely monitored his clinical condition till he breathed his last.
In a film career spanning five decades, he starred in more than 350 films in an assortment of roles. He is referred to as a “Superstar” in the media. In 2009, the government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian cinema.
Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Congress party in 1989. In 1997, he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South in addition to an Honorary doctorate from Andhra University in 2008. He passed away in the early hours of 15 November 2022 due to cardiac arrest.
