Jammu and Kashmir Police booked a drug peddler under the NDPS Act after 45 kg Poppy Straw was recovered from his house in Pulwama
Police said on specific information that one person identified as Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh a resident of Chandgham Pulwama was peddling contraband substances to the younger generation involving them in drug addiction and also hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in his house.
Police rushed into action and led a raid at a specific location in Village Chandgam in presence of the Magistrate and during the search, found 45 kilograms of poppy straw from the cow shed of the accused. The accused has been arrested on the spot, Police said.
A case under NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Pulwama and an investigation set into motion.
Last month, September, nearly 300 kg of Poppy straw was seized in Jammu and three were arrested after ANTF Jammu received specific inputs that two trucks, coming from Kashmir towards Jammu had a massive quantity of poppy straw worth lakhs of rupees.
The trucks were intercepted near Bagh-e-Bahu near Narwal Bye Pass. During their search, over 222 kg of the contraband substance was seized from a truck driven by Rameez Ahmad and another 70 kg from the second truck of Javid Ahmad Chichi, sources said.
