Police along with security forces on Wednesday gunned down four local militants in twin encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Police said on Tuesday at about 2005 hours, Police along with Army (44RR) and CRPF (14 Bn) launched a joint cordon and search operation in the village Drach Keegam area of Shopian following input regarding the presence of terrorists.
“As the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the search party. The joint party retaliated effectively leading to an encounter”, police said. In the ensuing encounter, 3 local terrorists linked with the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed and their bodies were recovered from the site of the encounter.
They have been identified as Zubair Maqbool Wani resident of Doompora Keegam, Jamsheed Ahmad Magray resident of Rajpora & Hanaan Bin Yaqoob @ Saqib resident of Kareemabad Pulwama. “As per police records, all the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities”, police said.
They said, “Terrorists Hanan Bin Yaqoob and Jamsheed were involved in the recent killing of SPO Javed Dar on October 2, 2022, at the Pinglana area of Pulwama. They were also involved in the killing of an outside laborer from West Bengal in Gadoora. Besides, terrorist Jamshed was involved in Ratnipora terror attack where he shot & injured two outside laborers”, police added.
Meanwhile, today morning in the wee hours, on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists at the Moolu area of Shopian, police along with Army (44 RR) and CRPF (178 Bn) launched a joint cordon and search operation in the said area. As the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately which was effectively retaliated by the joint search party resulting in the elimination of a local terrorist. He has been identified as Arif Rashid Wani resident of Shirmal.
As per Police records, the killed terrorist was a categorized terrorist linked with the banned terror outfit Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT). He was involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities.
Arms & ammunition including 4 AK series rifles, 1 Pistol, 8 AK magazines, 4 Pistol magazines & other incriminating materials were recovered from both the encounter sites. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. Regarding the incidents, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the areas at encounter sites are completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any, Police said.
