India9-year-old raped and strangled by neighbor "uncle" in Gaziabad

With names changed, *Hasina and *Razia, cousins, were taken for a ride by neighbour “uncle” *Vivek who raped and strangled Hasina to death.

What Happened that Fateful Evening

The horrific incident occurred in Ghaziabad when a 9-year-old and 6-year-old were befriended by their neighbour uncle who told them he would take them for a ride, and then raped and strangled one of them to death.

On the evening of 18 August, at around 7 pm as usual 9-year-old Hasina* was playing hide-and-seek with her cousin sisters and other friends outside her home in Ghaziabad’s Modinagar.

Their neighbour whom they knew as ‘uncle’ came on a bicycle and asked two of them to go on a ride with him. “He said ‘I will first take two of you on a cycle ride, drop you back, and then take the rest of you,” says 10-year-old Shahzan*, Hasina’s* elder sister who was part of the group of girls playing together.

Vivek, the 25-year-old man took Hasina and one of their friends 6-year-old Razia* on his cycle, promising to bring them back soon. Hasina and Razia did not come back and there was a wild search for them.

Shahzan* ran inside her home in a panic crying to her mother and the family decided to inform the police and began a search for the girls with some other villagers. The police team included about 50 officers from four different police stations in the region.

After long hours of searching, at 9:30 pm 6-year-old Razia* was found near a cremation ground looking terrified with torn clothes and bruises all over her body.

“She looked terrified, her clothes were torn, and she had bruises all over,” a family member who was part of the search said. Razia* told the police that Vivek had raped Hasina* and was strangling her while Razia* managed to escape running out of the fields.

Hours later, 9-year-old Hasina was found dead in the sugarcane fields.  Vivek had allegedly raped her before strangling her to death. t It wasn’t until 3 am the next morning that the police found Vivek hanging around in the village. “

Initially, Vivek lied saying he spent the entire day in Meerut, where his father-in-law had died that very day. But after some hours of interrogation by the police, he confessed that he had come back home by early evening. He also confessed to raping and strangling the 9-year-old to death,” Ghaziabad SP (rural) Iraj Raja said. Her body was found covered in sugarcane leaves. The postmortem report of the deceased 9-year-old accessed by The Quint, states that her “hymen was broken and blood was oozing out.”

Mother Wants Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Give Justice

Meanwhile, Huma’s mother has been nursing her youngest daughter who is just 4 years old and has been down with a high fever. “Nothing makes sense anymore. Huma was with us just a few days ago, and now she is gone forever. I want the man to suffer the exact same way he made my daughter suffer. No one deserves what she had to undergo. She was tortured before being killed ruthlessly,” she said according to Ribhu Chatterjee from The Quint.

“I want my voice to reach the CM (Yogi Adityanath). I want justice. I want him to be given capital punishment,” the mother added. The girl’s father is the only earning member of the family; he works as a labourer.

The accused’s mother does not think it was a communal crime as he was “not good to his wife either.”  There was an outpouring of support for this Muslim family from the Hindus in the village.
