Wildfires have struck southern Spain, driving 2,000 people from the town of Benahavis to evacuate their homes.
The wildfires started on Wednesday 8 June, on the slopes of Pujerra Mountain in the Sierra Bermeja, above the Costa del Sol – a popular destination for British tourists on the Andalusian coast.
Helicopters were deployed to try and extinguish the fires and authorities said three firefighters have been injured while trying to tackle the flames.

Residents of Benahavis evacuated by raging wildfire have been allowed to return home after being evacuated because of the Pujerra wildfire, authorities said. It is also said that British holidaymakers were forced to sleep in cars as the wildfire threatened villas on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
The wildfires are said to be caused by global warming.
