According to mythological belief, the fast of Akshaya Tritiya is observed every year on the third day of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month. This year it is on 3rd May 2022.
People generally observe fast on this day and worship Lord Vasudeva with rice grains. Starting a new venture or buying valuables like gold on Akshaya Tritiya is considered to bring luck and success. It is said that if you buy expensive items on this day, they tend to stay with you in abundance.
The day marks the birthday of Lord Parshuram, who is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is also believed that on this day Lord Ganesha began to write Mahabharata. In Sanskrit, the word “Akshaya” means “never diminishing” i. e. regarded to bring good luck and success. As per the legends, you will be blessed if you do charity on this day.

It is believed that buying gold on Akshaya Tritiya increases wealth for generations. It is said that on this day Satyayug and Tretayug also started. Apart from this, the Dwapar Yuga also ended.
In the Hindu religion, it is believed that any person who needs help should donate water, Kumbh, sugar, sattu, fans, umbrellas etc. in the name of gods and ancestors.
A pitcher filled with water, sugar, jaggery, barfi, white clothes, salt, syrup, rice, and silver is also donated on this day. This will bring good luck to the givers and bring on the favor of Goddess Lakshmi who will herself visit the devotee’s house.
Pitradosh is removed: Akshat should be offered to the idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi while worshiping on this day. This gives freedom from Pitradosh. Apart from this, offering tarpan to ancestors is very beneficial for the prevention of Pitradosh and the troubles of the family are removed.
