Over 22,500 Indians were evacuated from Ukraine, says EAM. Pilot, Mahasweta Chakraborty flew over 800 students back home amid the war.
In an address to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said that over 22,500 Indian citizens have returned safely under Operation Ganga. He added that 150 foreign nationals of 18 countries including Bangladesh and Nepal were also evacuated from Ukraine and brought to India.
Social media is now flooded with the story of a 24-year-old woman pilot, Mahasweta Chakraborty, from Kolkata who flew over 800 students back to India from the border of Ukraine, Poland, and Hungary.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s vice president, Priyanka Sharma tweeted about the great accomplishment of Mahasweta Chakraborty. According to the tweets, Mahasweta Chakraborty has flown over 800 students back to India amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.
