PM Modi on ANI TV breaks the Model Code of Conduct

IndiaPM Modi on ANI TV breaks the Model Code of Conduct

Just ahead of elections, breaking the model code of conduct, PM Modi gives a 70-minute interview to ANI, all institutes are mute spectators.

PM Modi held an interview with ANI, Smita Prakash which widely spread on TV channels broke all rules and the model code of conduct.  Right before elections, India’s laws disallow campaigning.  Election silence, pre-election silence, electoral silence, or campaign silence is a ban on political campaigning before, and in some countries during, a general election.

Dr. Shama Mohamed Spokesperson of Congres said, “Doesn’t this interview of #Modi which is on all T.V channels violating the Model Code of Conduct!”

The Model Code of Conduct comes into force instantly on the announcement of the election schedule by the commission for the need of ensuring free and fair elections. Its main purpose is to ensure that ruling parties, at the Centre and in the States, do not misuse their position of advantage to gain an unfair edge.

The BJP is clearly using its position of advantage to gain unfair leverage in this election.  It was unfortunate to see that all the news channels were helping the Prime Minister and BJP by airing the interview and no one could challenge this.  It is even worse the Supreme Court, Election Commission, and Central Bureau of Investigation appear to be in a dormant state.
