BJP removes Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani after being in power for 5 years

15 months before the Gujarat polls, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has “resigned” after being in power for five years.

Home Minister Amit Shah went over to Ahmedabad as Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani resigned from the top post on Saturday after being in power for five years. This is fifteen months before Gujarat goes to assembly polls in December 2022.

It is reported that Vijay Rupani met Governor Acharya Devvrat at the Raj Bhawan on Saturday and submitted his resignation. While speaking to the press, the Rupani thanked the BJP central leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I believe that now this journey of the development of Gujarat should proceed under the leadership of the prime minister with new enthusiasm and new energy. Keeping this in mind, I am resigning from the responsibility of the chief minister of Gujarat.”

He confirmed that he would continue to work as a BJP worker. “Now, whatever responsibility will be given to me by the party, I will work with full responsibility and new energy under the leadership of the prime minister and under the guidance of (BJP) national president,” he added.

In the meantime, all BJP MLAs have been asked to reach Gandhinagar at the earliest for a legislature meeting, which could be held either on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Union Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to reach Ahmedabad by late Saturday evening, according to sources.

Many took a jibe at the quick succession of chief ministers that were made to resign by the BJP:
