Rahul Gandhi has arrived in J&K on his 2-day visit where he will meet Congress workers and inaugurate Congress J&K headquarters.
In Srinagar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will inaugurate the party’s Jammu and Kashmir headquarters and meet Congress workers.
He will also attend the wedding of the son of J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir in the evening. On August 10, he will inaugurate the headquarters of the J&K unit of the Congress and address a meeting of party workers and leaders in the Union Territory. Ahead of the Congress’ office inauguration, Rahul Gandhi will visit the Kheer Bhavani temple. The temple is located in Ganderbal, an hour away from Srinagar.
Rahul will also visit Hazrat Bal Masjid in Srinagar. There is a likelihood that Rahul may also visit the Gurudwara of the sixth Padshahi and Mazar of Saint Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom.
This would be Rahul Gandhi’s first visit since the Modi government scrapped Article 370 and bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir division; and Ladakh division.
The Congress has severely criticized the draconian manner in the removal of Article 370 and 35a by the Modi government terming it as “unconstitutional” as it was done without the consent of the Kashmiris, as required by the constitutional agreement.
The Congress party is also demanding statehood for Jammu and Kashmir as the region has come under restrictions coming directly under the Center where even the revenues of Jammu and Kashmir go directly to the Center.
