In Kashmir, an explosion occurred near Jamia Masjid in Srinagar at around 12:00 noon on August 5th with no casualties reported.

Event

A bomb explosion occurred near Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Jammu, and Kashmir, at around 12:00 Aug. 5. There have been no reports of any wounded or fatalities.  There are unconfirmed reports that connect the blast to a bomb.  They stated that the explosion is speculated to be caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), took place around noon.

At present, no group has taken responsibility for the explosion, which occurred as locals in Jammu and Kashmir commemorate the second anniversary of the Indian Parliament’s 2019 decision to annul the region’s special status under Article 370.

Officials also report that militants attacked a police party in the Sopore area of Baramulla district. No loss of life or injury was reported.

Investigations On

Authorities are to strengthen security in the impact area in the coming hours. Localized transport disruptions are likely as officials continue to investigate the explosion.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Carry personal identification documents. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time in the area.
