The terrible incident shook the nation leading to protests in the capital as a priest and three of his employees caught the girl, raped her, brutally killed her, and then cremated her. The accused have been identified as Radhey Shyam, the priest at the crematorium in Southwest Delhi, and Kuldeep Kumar (63), Laxmi Narain (48), and Mohd Salim (49), all of whom were reportedly acquainted with the girl and were arrested

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, 4 August, met the family of a 9-year-old girl who was allegedly raped, murdered and cremated without the family’s consent in Delhi’s Nangal.
Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday had taken to Twitter to say: “The daughter of a Dalit is also a daughter of the country.” Criticism for the inaction of the Delhi police is sparking.

What Led to the Circumstances?
The girl who lived with her parents near the crematorium was sent by her mother to get water from the crematorium at around 5:30 pm on Sunday.
At around 6 pm, Radhey Shyam, and two-three other people acquainted with the girl’s mother, called and showed her the girl’s body, claiming that she had died after getting electrocuted while getting water.
The accused reportedly persuaded the girl’s family to cremate her without informing the police, claiming that if police file a case, the doctors would steal the girl’s organs. Even after the girl’s family objected, the accused forcefully tried to carry out the cremation.
The police were called around 10:30 pm, following which a team rushed to the spot.
The girl’s mother has claimed that the accused may have sexually assaulted her daughter.
Cry for Justice
It has become obvious to the people that she was raped and then murdered and an investigation is on. Rising fury over the alleged rape and murder of a nine-year-old Dalit girl in Delhi Cantonment is growing with locals as well top political leaders expressing distress. Demands for immediate action and justice have been raised from multiple sides.
Residents of Old Nangal village in the cantonment, where the girl lived with her family, have been protesting since Sunday night when the incident came to be reported.
The hurried cremation of the child’s body has drawn parallel with the Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras case from September 2020. Then, too, the rape victim’s body was disposed of in the cover of night, allegedly without the parents’ consent. The move was seen as an attempt to destroy evidence.
Demands for the Delhi police who come under the central government to take strict action are rising.
