AIMIM asks for a special package under Art 371 for Seemanchal, Bihar

IndiaAIMIM asks for a special package under Art 371 for Seemanchal, Bihar

As AIMIM asks for a special package for Seemanchal, Bihar,  President Mr. Owaisi will lead a delegation of the party and meet Union Ministers.

In this meet in the upcoming parliament monsoon session, he will bring forth many issues relating to Seemanchal. In particular, the Bihar unit of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has asked for a ‘special package’ under Article 371 of the Constitution for the Seemanchal region of Bihar.

These include the setting up of a Patna High Court Bench in Purnia, the establishment of an Aligarh Muslim University Center in Kishangunj, railways topics relating to the Seemanchal region especially Araria – Galgalia Railway project, and the construction of a new airport in Purnia.

During the virtual conference, Owaisi also reviewed relief work taken up by party legislators during the COVID-19 pandemic and instructed units to reach out to the needy people.

Mr. Owaisi also pushed legislators to emphasize providing proper Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farm produce, especially for maize.  He supported watermelon, banana, tea growers having greater control over their products and aimed to provide strong support to tea laborers, and represent district authorities on flood control measures.

AIMIM’s won a monumental victory in Seemanchal.  The achievement of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen in Simanchal in the northeastern part of Bihar is due to a population of about 1 crore people with a vast majority of Muslims in its population. It is said that these Muslim-majority areas have pathetically been neglected by ruling parties over the decades.

The backwardness and underdevelopment of these areas are evidenced on visiting these areas that reveal the harsh reality of their situation. A bulk of Muslims here did not hold jobs, a great percentage are in jail, while 16% of children are not in school simply because they did not have the financial means to afford school.

Therefore the AIMIM’s demand for a special package under Article 371 is apparently due in this context.  Article 371 of the Constitution of India safeguards the rights of local people in employment and education.
