A village Bhikhari, in Ludhiana, has become the first in Punjab to vaccinate 100% of its adult population against Covid-19.
Payal MLA Lakhveer Singh Lakha said that the population of village Bhikhi is 1,700, out of which 947 residents are above 18 years of age. Lakha said all 905 eligible people were vaccinated till Saturday, leaving out 18 pregnant women and some with comorbid conditions. Now, all eligible residents of the village have received at least one dose of the vaccine, he said.

Sandeep Kumar said that the Gram Panchayat has thus arisen as a chief leader among the municipal bodies eligible for the special grant of Rs.10 lakh, declared by the Chief Minister of Punjab earlier. Captain Amarinder Singh.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma also complimented the residents of the village and urged other villages of the Ludhiana district to go on a massive vaccination drive “So that we can wipe out COVID-19 from our society,” he said.
MLA Lakhveer Singh Lakha applauded the coordinated endeavors made by the officers under the leadership of SDM Mankanwal Singh Chahal in executing the guidelines for the prevention of the spread of the pandemic in the district.
Mr. Lakha also said that due to the efforts of grassroots-level health workers and Panchayat members, all 905 eligible beneficiaries of Bhikhi villages were encouraged to take the vaccine and thus vaccinated during the camps organized from time to time.
He also said, “While Bhikhi village has already become a leader in achieving 100 percent target, there are many other areas which have crossed the 90 percent mark.” village grant
SDM Payal Mankanwal Singh Chahal said that the target was reached due to the combined efforts of officials led by Tehsildar Vikasdeep Singh and BDPO Gurvinder Kaur, who are now set out to get 100 percent immunization status for more villages soon.
