The Congress reminded the Modi government that during Prime Minister Modi’s election campaigns, he promised crores of jobs for the youth if the BJP gov was formed. Unfortunately, the government destroyed the dreams of the youth when long before COVID, the effects of demonization brought an inflation wave in India hitting the economy and for the first time in 45 years in India, Indians faced a job crisis.
COVID-19 accelerated job losses further as the Indian economy was crashing and could not sustain during the health crisis and 12.2 crore Indians lost jobs during the COVID lockdown just at a single slicing stroke, just in April. The unemployment rate rose to 23%, the highest ever. Under the Congress government, it used to be up to 2.2% at the highest.
The GDP has gone down to -8, and India is termed as one of the poorest countries in the world, this is the first time India has gone behind Bangladesh, the unplanned lockdown destroyed industries, businesses, and work all around the nation with more than 75 lakhs unemployed in April 2021 alone.
Thousands died due to COVID mismanagement and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the government needs to have the right intention, policy, and determination to fight the coronavirus and not just a monthly talk.
”You need the right intention, policy, and determination to fight Corona and not just a pointless talk once in a month,” Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi, on a day when Prime Minister Modi delivered his monthly ”Mann ki baat” radio address.
Congress general secretary and chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the last seven years have been a story of unparalleled destruction, the abdication of responsibility, and abandonment of India’s people by a government that was showered with all the love and affection. ”This government is harmful for the country as it has betrayed the faith of the people of India. It is betraying the trust and the innate faith the people reposed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
”This is a deception of the worst kind heaped upon 140 crore Indians by a government they elected based on innumerable promises. After seven years time has come to do stock-taking. Time has come to ask why the country is suffering,” he said.
The Congress came out with a 4.5-minute video, ”Bharat Mata ki Kahani”, listing out the ”failures” of the government in the last seven years with the hashtag trending on Twitter #7YearsofModiMadeDisaster social media campaign to claim that the Modi government was the most spineless government to step into office in the last 73 years.
“The seven years of the Modi government are marked by seven criminal wrongdoings,” Mr. Surjewala said while blaming the government of being guilty of bringing upon a financial crisis, triggering unemployment and inflation, attack on farmers, lack of sympathy for the poor and the middle-class, mismanagement of Covid crisis and tampering with national security.
Surjewala said the current unemployment rate was the highest in 45 years; per capita income was expected to dip to 5.4%; people were dying due to a lack of life-saving drugs, oxygen, and hospital beds while the government watched.
