IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar warns of action against social media comments
During the recent battle that erupted between Palestine and Israel, with highly-strung emotions running on social media, the IGP (Inspector-General of Police) of Kashmir warned the people of Kashmir that he would take action against ‘irresponsible social media comments’.
In the battle between Palestine and Israel with more Palestinian civilians and tragically children also losing lives, by a very hard-hitting Israeli force, hearts have been inflamed and comments and opinions are running wild in social media as in the case during situations as these.
He also said that such comments result in actual violence” on streets and further said, “J&K Police is keeping a very close watch on elements who are attempting to leverage the unfortunate situation in Palestine to disturb public peace and order in the Kashmir Valley,”
“We are a professional force and are sensitive to public anguish. But J&K police has a legal responsibility to ensure law and order as well. It, however, wouldn’t allow cynical encashment of the public anger to trigger violence, lawlessness and disorder on Kashmir streets,” he said, adding, “Expressing an opinion is a freedom but engineering and inciting violence on streets is unlawful.
While the J&K police force has a moral responsibility to keep peace, law, and order, the recent draconian suppressive actions of the Center have been under much speculation recently.
In Uttar Pradesh, whistleblowers have been threatened for revealing the shortage of oxygen and medicines and voicing that the death rates are far higher than revealed by the Uttar Pradesh government. In Delhi, Congress Youth Workers, and Mr. Srinivas are being threatened by the BJP government when they are reaching out to COVID dying patients with oxygen, medicine, even food, and water.
Such threats to helping hands is strange because COVID-infected patients are choking for oxygen, people chocking in funeral smoke are wailing for their dead, there is death and sorrow everywhere, everywhere, someone has lost a loved one, and the pain is unbelievable, and political party workers helping as warriors, staying awake all night, arranging for hospital ICU bed and oxygen are threatened and intimidated by the BJP government is inhumane.
Kashmir seems to be doubly threatened each time whenever they express their voices. First, three years of lockdown has brought forth untold miseries, depression and destroyed their economy to a point that would take decades to repair.
It is important to note that when BJP revoked Article 370, they also made a promise to give Kashmir an equal status with the rest of India; however, it appears that the voices of expression, the journalists, and the press are severely suppressed in Kashmir, nor are Kashmiris promoted to any higher positions in jobs, Many government employees have been removed if they expressed dissatisfaction with the government.
It is time India wakes up to realize that once the voices of expression are taken away, the life, creativity, and innovativeness of a nation dies, and today, India is slowly dying under a draconian government. The BJP government has to realize the nation still has a Democratic Constitution and they cannot keep bullying and intimidating the people of the nation.
