Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry Assembly Election Phase 1 Voting is underway in 444 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Puducherry.    Until 1 p.m., there is a 41 percent voting in Tamil Nadu, 47.39 percent in Kerala, and Puducherry around 53.35 percent.

Polling is going on peacefully in Tamil Nadu. Top leaders and celebrities also exercised their franchise and things got a little chaotic in Chennai as Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan arrived at a polling booth early on Tuesday morning along with his daughters to cast his vote in the Tamil Nadu assembly election.

AIADMK’s K Palaniswami, O Panneerselvam, DMK chief M K Stalin and many others cast their votes during the peaceful polling.

The crowds went crazy when they saw star actor Vijay (Vijay is the highest-paid actor in Tamil cinema) riding a bicycle to the polling booth.  People were speculating whether he wanted to send out a message of the rising fuel prices though his publicist that this was only to avoid parking problems in the narrow street where the polling booth was located.

Chief Minister Palaniswami accompanied by his grandson, cast his vote at Siluvampalayam in his native Salem district and urged all people to cast vote.

Phase 3 voting today has started today in West Bengal, and polling in Bengal has been fairly violent overall.  Right now, per Mamata Banerjee, CM, BJP goons attacked TMC’s Sujata Mondal.  The Election Commission has imposed Section 144 in all the 31 West Bengal assembly constituencies

With polling taking place for assembly elections in four states and a Union Territory, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday urged people to cast their vote, saying, “India is counting on you”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged people to vote in large numbers in the assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that at a time when there is an “irresponsible” Election Commission and negative politics is being played by the ruling BJP, the people of Assam will choose the path of guarantee of development and progress.

Polling is underway in 444 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal, and Puducherry. Of the seats going to polls, 234 are in Tamil Nadu, 40 assembly seats in Assam, 140 seats in Kerala, and 30 seats in Puducherry. The voting will conclude at 6.30 pm.

The results will be out on May 2nd.
