Dr. Amme Yajnik during the ‘Special Mention’ said that the differently-abled students need special arrangements for their movement in the education institutions, and they need enablement for independent functioning as well.

Dr. Yajnik also said, “Colleges and other educational institutions should ensure that facilities like ramps, classrooms, and special toilets are available for them”, adding that the Government should help these institutions financially for the same.

She also said that visually challenged students need special categorized arrangements such as distinctive computers with unique features that should be made for them.

There are approximately 2.9 million children with disabilities in India, and 990,000 children aged 6 to 14 years and 75% of India’s disabled kids have never attended a school in their lifetime.
